After you have purchased your hammock from Mayan, now comes the
exciting part of hanging it so you can relax and enjoy it. Just
as buying, the hammock was easy, so are the instructions. To
start with, you want to hang your hammock between two sturdy
points, whether trees, posts, fence posts, or a combination of
house and post, and use heavy-duty screw hooks and nylon rope.
If your hammock will be hung full distances, you want to make sure
the rope is high-test marine. Once you get the hammock up, you can
lie down and enjoy a gentle sway that provides a cozy curve hanging
from two to four feet above ground. If you plan to hang your
hammock inside, make sure you purchase different screws specially
designed for wall or ceiling studs.
You want your hammock to be in a place that offers a minimum of two
to three feet shorter than the overall length of the hammock. For
example, if the hammock is 13 feet, your space should be between 15
and 16 feet apart. Each of the hanging points on your hammock
should be mounted approximately six to eight feet from the ground.
Depending on the supports and your own preference, you may want to
hang your hammock a little higher or lower.
Now that your hammock is hanging and ready to be enjoyed, you need
to learn how to get into your hammock. With your back facing the
hammock, standing right up next to it in the center, grab hold of
the bottom one-third portion and then get hold of enough string so
the center of the hammock is exposed and flat. Very gently, lower
your body down onto the hammock. Once seated, lie back slowly,
carefully lifting your legs and placing your feet on the hammock's
edge. Finally and most importantly, relax and enjoy!
The larger hammocks have several advantages. First, more than one
person can enjoy them at once, and second, you can lie either
perpendicularly or diagonally. This way, you can enjoy the hammock
to its fullest potential, while taking some much-needed time for
relaxation. After you have spent time doing absolutely nothing in
your hammock but enjoying the good old outdoors, you need to get
out of the hammock carefully just like when you got in it. Start
by propping your elbows on the hammock and then slowly leaning
forward. Next, swing one leg over the edge, and then the other
until you are once again in a sitting position. Once you have both
of your feet planted firmly on the ground, then you can slowly lean
forward and then stand up.
To help your hammock last the longest, you need to be sure to keep
it clean. The best way to clean your hammock is to get hold of the
two hanging rings and after bringing them together, you want to fold
the hammock in half. For the best results, tie the hammock together
using string located below the rings. Now tie the hammock again
using more string at the mid-section of the hammock, which will keep
the rings from becoming tangled. Using your bathtub, wash out the
hammock with warm water and a mild detergent. After washing, rinse
with clean water until all the soap is gone and then after unfolding
the hammock, hang it to dry completely. The better you take care of
your hammock, the more you can enjoy it!
